Saints play midweek game versus Pine Manor

College of St. Joseph's baseball team will face Pine Manor College at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass. on Wednesday, March 27 at 7pm.

Last season, the Fighting Saints faced the Gators in a doubleheader on May 5. CSJ earned a 13-0 win in the first contest and came from behind to win the second game 4-3. Returning senior Kyle Gould recorded a double and a single for two hits, while also notching two runs and an RBI in game one.

Game two had a much different storyline. Pine Manor took the lead in the opening inning of the contest when then-sophomore Randall Adams hit a double, sending Brian Jones home a 1-0 lead that would hold for 2.5 innings. In the bottom of the third, Jeremy Johnson recorded his first home run of the season to tie the game at one. The fourth inning went scoreless, and in the fifth the Gators managed to regain their early lead. A triple by senior Jonathan Higgenbotham sent Hugh Turner home to make the game 2-1, and CSJ was not able to respond in the bottom of the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Pine Manor further extended their advantage. Eduary Baez singled, sending Adams home for the Gators' third run of the game. This time, the Fighting Saints had an answer in the bottom of the inning. Ernesto Figuera hit a triple that sent Kameron Broussard home.

The Gators did not get on the scoreboard in their final turn at bat, leaving the door wide open for a CSJ comeback. Salvador Cimino singled to reach base and then rounded the bases when Brian Quezada sent a single to the outfield, resulting in the game-tying run. Mathew Santiago was subbed into the contest to pinch run for Quezada. With Santiago on first, Petar Rumora sent a ball with speend towards the Gators' center fielder who made an error that allowed Santiago to score the game-winning run.

Wednesday's match-up will be CSJ's first game in over a month. The Fighting Saints' first home game of the 2019 season is scheduled for April 6 against Great Bay Community College.
