College of St. Joseph's women's cross country team showed they are a group to be reckoned with at the Castleton Invitational on Sept. 9. The first-year program earned fifth-place overall, of 11 teams participating.
Each runner on the Fighting Saints squad set personal-best times for the second straight meet, facing stronger competition as they've continued through their schedule.
Maria Scalf posted the team's fastest time, clocking in at 24:05. Running at a 7:45 mile-pace, Scalf placed 16th overall out of 66 runners.
Emily St. Germain was another top finisher for CSJ, running a time of 25:09 to finish 22nd individually.
From that point, five Fighting Saints displayed consistent finishing times, with the runners finishing about one minute apart. SarahJo Campos was third-fastest for the Saints, running a time of 26:40. At 27:40, Madison Akins crossed the finish line.
Not far behind Akins was Brittney Vicenti, who ran a time of 28:35. Next to finish for CSJ was Crisilda Chaplin, clocking in at the 29:17 mark. Aliesha Thomas, Alayna Landolfo and LaShante White rounded out the Fighting Saints finishers.
The Fighting Saints' next showing will be during the Badger Invitational at Johnson State College on Saturday, Sept. 16.
