The Fighting Saints Volleyball team will pack up and head to Maine for a season opening doubleheader on Saturday. Husson University will host all games in the tournament.
Game one for CSJ is tabbed to start at 6 p.m. versus the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Coach Fe Costa hopes to tally a win in the first-ever match-up between the two teams.
With the majority of the squad being new to CSJ volleyball, returners Ashley Vasas (Waterbury, Conn.) and Kali Drum (Windham, N.Y.) will spearhead the Fighting Saints. As far as blocking goes, a defensive area CSJ struggled in last season, the Saints will look to rely on their recruits - four of which stand close to 6 feet tall.
Presque-Isle returns two of their three best attackers in Hannah Williams, who was second on the team in kills last season with 131, and Cheyenne McMillen, who placed third with 86 kills.
Game two on Saturday is at 8 p.m., when the Fighting Saints take on host Husson University. The two squads have never faced off before. Four returning Eagles' attackers tallied over 100 kills last season. Sophomore Mary Grace Power lead the team at 168, and 6 foot senior Bailey Cote was second on the team with 138 kills.
