CSJ plays first home game of 2019 Saturday

College of St. Joseph's women's basketball team plays their first game of 2019 at home against SUNY Delhi on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 5pm.

Delhi is 8-4 on the season. Saturday's contest marks their first of the New Year. The Broncos finished 2018 with a 73-61 win over Green Mountain College on Dec. 17. Junior Samiaya Salley 33 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Kiera Holland had 20 points.

Salley leads her team in scoring, averaging 21.7 points per game (PPG). Holland is second with 14.2 PPG and Brianna Boivin is averaging 13 PPG. Bovin is second on the team in rebounding with 10.5 per game. Diana Echols leads Delhi with 12.6 rebounds per game (RPG).

The Fighting Saints are 3-10 on the season. They finished 2018 with a 81-69 win over New Hampshire Technical Institute. Sabrena Eye had a game-high 23 points for CSJ and six rebounds. Rachel Bruneel scored a career-high 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Madison Akins nearly reached a triple-double, recording 13 assists, nine points and nine rebounds.

Daija Black leads CSJ in scoring for the second consecutive year and is currently averaging 12.5 PPG. Sabrena Eye is also averaging double figures with 10.5 PPG. Rachel Bruneel and NaKeeya Goodman-Boddie are also contributing with 8.6 PPG and 8.3 PPG, respectively, as well as 4.0 RPG and 6.4 RPG, respectively. Madison Akins leads the team in assists per game (4.3) and Eye leads in rebounding (6.6 RPG).

SUNY Delhi and CSJ faced off twice last season, with each team recording a win. The Broncos hosted the first game, which was close until the final seconds, and won 86-83 on Dec. 5. CSJ won the next match up 98-91 at home on Dec. 10.

The Saints will play three away games after Saturday's home contest and play at home next on Jan. 17 against Maine-Machias.
