Softball to battle SMCC for a place in YSCC Fall Championship

College of St. Joseph's softball team in is South Portland, Maine on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a YSCC Fall Semi-Final game against Southern Maine Community College at 1:30 p.m.

Jenna Crowley pitched the Fighting Saints to victory in the last matchup between the two squads on Sept. 16. She recorded four strikeouts and had a hit a double that sent two runners home in the 9-2 CSJ victory.

Shelby Fenton (one hit) and Vanessa Quigley (two hits) each had two RBIs in the win. Lena Tirotta swung two hits and recorded an RBI.

Meranda Martin paced the Seawolves with two hits. Emma Burns drove in a run on a double to right field in the first inning, but CSJ responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. Kahli Philibotte sent a ball over the fence in the top of the third for a solo home run, which proved be the last of SMCC's offense for the game.

Tirotta, Ashley Vasas, Quigley and Sierra Jaeger each scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure the 9-2 win.

The Seawolves are 2-2 in fall play, losing to CSJ and NHTI. The Fighting Saints are 3-1, losing one of two faceoffs with NHTI 6-5.
