Softball to face SMCC and GBCC Saturday

College of St. Joseph's softball team travels to Portsmouth, N.H. on Saturday, Sept. 30 for games at 12:30 p.m. and and 3:30 p.m. The Saints will first square off against Southern Maine Community College, followed by a game against the host, Great Bay Community College.

The Fighting Saints played SMCC in their first match-up of the fall ball season, earning a convincing 9-2 victory over the Seawolves. Jenna Crowley picked up the win on the mound, tossing five strikeouts along the way.

Offensively, Vanessa Quigley and Lena Tirotta led the way with two hits each. They both recorded doubles off of one of their two hits. Crowley also hit a double, sending home two runners. Shelby Fenton managed two RBIs off a hit, as well.

The Saints faced Great Bay in last weekend's round robin hosted by SMCC. Jillian Beayon pitched her first game in over a year-and-a-half, and still managed to earn her first collegiate win in a 9-3 victory over the Herons. Beayon pitched five strikeouts, and closer Crowley pitched three.

Fenton and Crowley finished the game with three hits apiece. The duo each recorded a double, and Timell Montgomery hit a triple. Tirotta recorded two hits and two RBIs, and Montgomery and Katie Jenkins also finished with two RBIs.
