After being rained out of their first scheduled game of the year on Wednesday, the Fighting Saints are rested and eager for redemption against the Seawolves of Southern Maine Community College. Kick-off is at 3 p.m. on Saturday in South Portland.
SMCC defeated CSJ 2-0 in the semifinal game of the YSCC tournament last year, abruptly ending the Saints' playoff and championship hopes. Earlier in 2016 the season, the Saints dropped their home-opener versus the Seawolves 3-1; in 2015, the Saints suffered a narrow defeat in a 1-0 overtime loss. The Fighting Saints will look to earn a win against SMCC on Saturday.
The Seawolves are currently 0-1 on the season. They suffered a tantalizing 6-0 loss against Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Sept. 2. SMCC gave up three goals in the first 11 minutes of play - each coming from the same Albany forward. CSJ will look to capitalize on a defense that has the potential to be broken down.
The Fighting Saints return junior Alex Andrade, who was second on the team in goals (6) and points (17) last season. Andrade will have the support of nine other returners from last year's successful season, along with five players new to the 2017 squad.
